Newport 7th in State 4A Tournament!
After losing their first match in the State 4A Tournament at St. Martin's
University in Lacey to the eventual State Champion Olympia High School Bears, the Lady Knights
won their last three matches versus Tahoma, Central Valley and Bellarmine Prep
to earn the 7th place trophy.
Congratulations ladies, it couldn't have been done without the dedication of
every player on the team. Thanks to the families who supported all the
players by attending games and offering encouragement through an extended
season. And finally, thanks to the die hard Terra Squad members who made
the trek down to Olympia and made everyone at Newport proud with their loud and
enthusiastic support! (see
State for the
complete State championship brackets)
Newport 2nd Seed from Kingco 4A
The Lady Knights are headed back to the Washington State 4A Championship at St.
Martin's University in Lacey November 11-12 as the second seed from KingCo 4A.
In a reversal of their regular season match against Woodinville, Newport
finished second to the Falcons in the KingCo 4A district championship match,
losing in 4 sets Thursday, Nov. 3 at Bothell High School.
Newport's first opponent in the State championship will be Olympia at 11:45
Friday, November 11, Court 3. Good luck at State, ladies! (see
State for the
4A State championship bracket)
Newport Clinches State Tournament Berth
The Lady Knights secured a spot in the State 4A volleyball tournament with a 3
set win over Bothell Tuesday night. With the win, Newport advances to the KingCo
4A championship match against Woodinville Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Bothell
High School gym. Woodinville earned their spot in the 4A championship
match with a 5 set win over Roosevelt. The winner of the championship
match will be the #1 seed going into the State tournament November 11-12 at St.
Martin's University in Lacey. (see
Divisionals for the
updated 4A tournament bracket)
Couldn't have gotten this far without the unwavering support of Terra Squad.
Hope you can make it to Bothell on Thursday night!
Lady Knights Get By Issaquah
In a rematch of the final regular season meeting against Issaquah, Newport
overcame a resounding loss in the second game to win the next two and beat a
determined Eagles team in 4 sets. The Lady Knights next opponent, the
Bothell Cougars, defeated Skyline in 4 sets in their first round match.
The match with Bothell is at 7:00 pm on Newport's home court.
Terra Squad, thanks for your support through a tough match with Issaquah
on Saturday! Looking forward to more of the same on Tuesday night!
Newport 1st in KingCo 4A
In a reversal from last year's final regular season match against Issaquah, the
Lady Knights rolled over the Eagles, winning in 3 straight sets. With the
win, Newport finished 1st in KingCo 4A, earning the Lady Knights the right to
host the first two rounds of the KingCo 4A divisional playoffs (see
Divisionals for the complete
tournament bracket).
Newport's first opponent in the playoffs will be a rematch with Issaquah at 1:00
Saturday, October 29 in the Newport main gym. Terra Squad, thanks for the
great turnout on Tuesday at Issaquah! You and the Lady Knights make a great
team, so we hope to see you out in force on Saturday at 1:00 for the first match
of the tournament!
JV and C Teams Finish Their Seasons on a Winning Note
The Newport JV team finished with an undefeated record in regular season matches
again in 2011. Congratulations on another stellar season! The
C team also ended their regular season strong, winning their last 4 matches and
finishing with a 6-3 conference record and 8-4 overall. Great way to close
out the season, ladies!
Newport Hands Roosevelt Their 1st Loss
In a tense, hard fought battle, the Lady Knights came out on top, winning 3-2
over the previously undefeated Roughriders. Newport lost a close game 1,
then came back to take the next two games before falling to Roosevelt in a nail
biter in game 4. The Lady Knights pulled ahead early in game 5, then kept
up the pressure to win the deciding game 15-10. One of the key factors in
Newport's win? Terra Squad! Your support was without a doubt one of the
critical factors in the outcome of the match. You were amazing, and the Lady
Knights thank you!
Newport Beats Ballard
The Lady Knights took care of business, rolling over
Ballard in three straight sets Tuesday night on the Beavers home court. The win
improved Newport's record to 7-1 in KingCo 4A conference play and set the stage
for two important matches to end the regular season: Roosevelt and
Issaquah. Way to keep your eyes on the goal, ladies! The JV and C teams
also won their matches in three sets -- great job!
The varsity match begins at 7:00,
preceded by the JV and C teams at 5:30.
Newport Rebounds Against Redmond
The Lady Knights used a combination of players to corral
the Mustangs in three straight sets Thursday night in the Redmond gym. A
strong all around team effort was on display. Nice work, ladies!
The JV team was also successful against their counterparts from Redmond winning
all three games.
Lady Knights Fall to Eastlake
Newport suffered its first loss of the season, losing to
the Eastlake Eagles in 5 sets Tuesday on the Knights' home court. Erratic
play by Newport and determined and steady play by Eastlake proved the
difference. After pulling away at the end of the first game, the Lady Knights
dropped the next two sets before rebounding to take game number 4. The
Eagles held off Newport to win the deciding game 5 by a score of 15-11.
Newport's JV team won
its match against the Eagles in straight sets, while the C team went to three
games against Eastlake before losing in the final game.
